President Trump is working to level the playing field with China. Currently he accuses them of stealing American technology and intellectual property. Many other countries feel the same way about China. However, his technique of fixing this foul play is critcize by Sally Deng in her article "Trumps Half-baked China Tariffs." In her opinion Trump should be working more heavily with other nations to deter China's behavior, but instead he has acted unilaterally.
President Trump has been accused of being a Marcantalist a few times. I think it would be fair to argue that his attacks on China are somewhat justified. Especially if other countries agree. However, he must use the institutions and alliances that are established to impose his restrictions on China. I think if he worked with some of the Bretton Woods instituons including the GATT, IMF, and World Bank, he could accomplish alot more than acting alone.
